BTS: How Los Angeles became a no-kill city

When Best Friends launched the No-Kill Los Angeles (NKLA) initiative in 2012, only 56% of the dogs and cats in the city’s shelters were making it out alive. But thanks to the hard work of the NKLA Coalition, Mayor Garcetti, Los Angeles Animal Services, a fabulous local community and devoted volunteers, we are thrilled to announce a sustained save rate of 90.49% for 2020. 

Today we're talking with two amazing leaders in animal welfare, Jennifer Pimentel, Executive Director of Best Friends Los Angeles and Annette Ramirez, Assistant General Manager of LA Animal Services, to get a behind the scenes look at what it took to make LA a no-kill city. This is part 1 of 2.
