Wendy French, strategist
Wendy French is a strategist for the south-central region, currently focusing in southeast Texas and the greater Houston area. Wendy joined Best Friends in February 2022 at the Houston Lifesaving Center as a shelter partnerships coordinator and lead transport coordinator. Prior to joining Best Friends Animal Society, she worked at Harris County Pets in Houston and in non-profit sheltering.
Before joining animal welfare, Wendy played collegiate tennis and studied animal science and agriculture at Sam Houston State University. Wendy began her career as a college student by volunteering at the local animal shelter and was quickly hired as staff. While serving in multiple roles, she was responsible for overseeing all lifesaving programs, including a robust cat adoption program, public events, and regular media appearances highlighting animal welfare issues and shelter pets.
Wendy is especially passionate about animal sheltering in rural communities, intake diversion, and transport programming. A native Texan, Wendy resides in Huntsville, Texas, with her husband, a bunch of big dogs and 6 chubby cats. When Wendy isn’t driving all over the state to meet new shelter partners, you can find her at the bookstore or caring for her menagerie of senior pets.
