Kristan began her career in animal welfare nearly 15 years ago as an intern and volunteer for Best Friends, focusing on animal care, emergency response work and large-scale events. She went on to work at different organizations, gaining experience in adoption, transport and volunteer programs, shelter operations and a community spay/neuter clinic. Kristan has been with Best Friends for more than nine years as one of the founding team members to establish the local foster and adoption program in New York and supported the opening of the Best Friends NYC Lifesaving Center. From there Kristan went on to work with various national programs for Best Friends, such as embed program, mentorship programs, Best Friend's Network and most recently was a part of the Shelter Collaborative team. Kristan now works as the senior manager, regional programs for the East Regional team focusing on engaging with shelters to provide resources to increase lifesaving. 

Kristan lives on Long Island in New York, with her husband Matt, a dachshund named Little and a floofy cat named Finn.
