Amanda Craugh, veterinary technician/specialist
Amanda is a Licensed Veterinary Technician/Specialist with the National Shelter Medicine Program. Her work involves providing direct medical support, assisting with disease outbreaks, and offering training to shelter staff nationwide. Amanda has extensive experience in disease prevention, neonatal kitten medical care, and high-quality, high-volume spay/neuter.
Amanda graduated from the Madison College Veterinary Technician Program in 2018 and began working at Best Friends Animal Society as a Veterinary Technician at the sanctuary clinic in Kanab, Utah. In 2019, Amanda followed her heart to South Texas, where she worked at Palm Valley Animal Society as their Medical Manager, and played a key role in initiating lifesaving isolation and treatment programs for parvo and ringworm.
In 2021, Amanda moved on to the Humane Society of Harlingen, now known as the Rio Grande Valley Humane Society, as their Medical Manager. There, she helped foster a growing medical team and worked with leadership to establish and manage monthly low-cost spay/neuter clinics.
Passionate about saving as many lives as possible, Amanda has kept her home a revolving door for foster animals, including neonates, medical cases, those with infectious diseases, and even the occasional orphaned opossum.
In 2024, Amanda returned to her home state of Wisconsin and worked in a feline-only general practice. Eager to return to shelter medicine, Amanda rejoined Best Friends in December in her new role with the National Shelter Medicine Program. Amanda is based in Madison, Wisconsin, and lives there with her six cats and two dogs, many of whom are foster fails.
