Who We Are

Susie Aguilar, national embed program specialist

Susie AguilarMy name is Susie Aguilar, and I am a national embed program specialist for Best Friends Animal Society, providing support to municipal shelters in the Pacific region on various topics such as Community Cat Programs (CCPs), kitten diversion, nuisance mitigation and dog behavior.

Prior to stepping into my current role on the national embed program team, I worked as a CCP coordinator for two of Best Friends' programs in Riverside County and Bakersfield, California, where I oversaw daily operations of the program and training of shelter staff. Additionally, I have years of client services experience within a municipal shelter setting, having worked at shelters in Los Angeles and Pasadena. I helped implement kitten intervention programs and assisted shelter staff with adoptions, foster coordinating, dog/cat behavior and enrichment, dog play groups, volunteer training and much more!

Throughout my 10+ years in the animal welfare community, I have fostered more than 100 underage kittens and three dogs. I love sharing the knowledge I have gained from my foster, volunteer and work experiences.

I currently live in Bakersfield with my six cats: Bumpire, Spookie, Mama, Olivia, Wendy and Sam Sam. I enjoy attending concerts and festivals; visiting Disneyland; trying new vegan foods; and being surrounded by family and friends.
