As our network operations manager, Kristan works to support operational projects that assist the 3,200+ shelters, rescue groups and intake prevention groups that comprise the Best Friends Network. Kristan began her career in animal welfare more than a decade ago as an intern and volunteer for Best Friends, focusing on animal care, emergency response work and large-scale events. She went on to work at different organizations, gaining experience in adoption, transport and volunteer programs, shelter operations and a community spay/neuter clinic. Kristan has been with Best Friends for more than six years as one of the founding team members to establish the local foster and adoption program in New York and to support the opening of the Best Friends Lifesaving Center as the lifesaving support services lead. In this position, Kristan developed operational flows around population management, transports, foster, medical and adoptions. Most recently prior to joining the network team, Kristan was supporting Best Friend's national embed and mentorship programs by helping shelters and rescue groups learn more about proven practices and lifesaving programs. Kristan lives in New York with her husband, a dachshund named Little and a floofy cat named Finn. She's excited to use her skills to help shelters and rescue groups feel supported and become further integrated into Best Friend's goal of No-Kill 2025.
