CALL TO ARMS

Let's stand united against auctioning puppy mill "rejects"!

"Story by Cathleen Manley, Best Friends Network"

For years advocates have been trying to get a law passed that would regulate breeders and do away with puppy mills in Wisconsin. Why is it so hard? Former Governor Scott McCallum vetoed a measure put before the state in 2004 because it would increase the license for a dog by $1.50 and for breeders $75 a year.

You and I know what a small price that would be to pay for the well being of these defenseless animals - animals that are kept in cages for breeding purposes only - animals that have no human contact - animals that are discarded when they are no longer viable breeders.

In March approximately 200 dogs were auctioned off at Horst Stables – results of puppy mill breeding. Many of the people interviewed for the Chippewa Falls News Bureau told of sick, older, and “junk” dogs the mill owners no longer wanted around and couldn’t sell. Protestors purchased those they could, but in some cases the pets they rescued did not make it. And what of those who were not fortunate enough to be chosen – what was their final fate?

Horst Stables is planning another dog auction on Saturday, September 22nd. Let’s get a group together and let these scruples-less breeders know that we don’t intend to stop until they are put out of business. Horst Stables is located 3 miles south of Thorp WI on Hwy “M”. Mark your calendars today for Saturday, September 22nd, gather your friends and neighbors and let’s show them the silent majority at it’s finest.

See also an eye whitness report of the 3/10/07 auction at http://www.cchs-petshelter.org/id73.html

There seems to be the same affiliation of a religious organization for puppy mills in Wisconsin as there was/is in Pennsylvania a while back. It amounts to animal abuse for the purpose of money grubbing. One would think that these people could be harassed enough to be shamed to quit this activity. Unfortunately, they likely would just move on.

The sad thing is that people like the Governor are supporting people who usually don't report (or underreport) their income and cheat on their business taxes.

These breeders don't want to get licensed because many many many of them are running "under the table" income businesses.

If they get licensed, they need to pay taxes and license fees, and their criminal operations are exposed.

Time for ELECTED OFFICIALS to start cracking down on these animal abusers, consumer cheats, and tax evaders!
