Jennifer Mount, specialist, national shelter medicine

Jennifer Mount - Best Friends Animal SocietyJennifer Mount is a Specialist for the National Shelter Medicine Program. Jenn’s work involves providing direct medical support, assisting with disease outbreaks and training for shelter staff throughout the nation. Jenn has extensive experience with disease prevention, outbreak response and high-quality high volume spay neuter.

Jenn started working in the veterinary field as a Veterinary Technician in 1999 where she was able to work with all manner of animals; including large cats like Tigers and Cougars. In 2015, she worked at a shelter in Tennesse as their vet clinic manager and worked closely with the community and animals in homeless camps. Two years later, she started working for Best Friends in Kanab Utah as a Veterinary Technician in the clinic with a focus on their dog and puppy population.

In 2017, Jenn worked with the Best Friends emergency response team to help care for and treat the 3000+ animals that were displaced during Hurricane Harvey. In 2020 she started working for Palm Valley Animal Society as their Medical Manager and Lifesaving Decisions. In June of 2023, she returned to Best Friends as part of the embed program in Brownsville, Texas and then into her new role with the National Shelter Medicine Program. Jennifer is based in McAllen, Texas and lives there with her three rescue dogs.
