Dr. Andrea Cermele, veterinarian national shelter medicine

Dr. Andrea Cermele - Best Friends Animal SocietyDr. Andrea Cermele is a 2001 graduate of The University of Florida's School of Veterinary Medicine. Prior to private practice, she completed a 1-year rotating general medicine and surgical internship at Red Bank Veterinary Hospital. Upon completion, she worked in general practice while simultaneously practicing shelter medicine until 2017. 2017 brought about a focus change as she transitioned full time into animal welfare. For the last six years she has worked at the ASPCA Spay/Neuter Alliance, where she has mentored private veterinarians, HQHVSN clinic teams and 4th year veterinary externs.

She was born and raised in New Jersey. She and her husband now live in Asheville, North Carolina with their Bluetick Coonhound and three indoor cats. In her spare time, she is a board member of the Animal Haven of Asheville, a local farm sanctuary, where she is the head of fundraising and social media. She is an avid vegan, lover of all animals, and is particularly excited to be joining the Best Friends’ National Shelter Medicine program to support their No-Kill 2025 movement.
