Chehalis to Get No-Kill Animal Shelter
Thanks to a generous gift from a Seattle man, the animals of Lewis County are the beneficiaries. Darren Pritt, treasurer of the Friends of the Lewis County Animal Shelter (FOLCAS) purchased a 2-acre parcel of land on Kreskey Avenue and donated it for a combination no-kill animal shelter and low-cost spay/neuter clinic. The facility is due to open next Spring.
Lewis County Animal shelter euthanizes approximately 100 dogs and 1000 cats every year, due to lack of space and the constant arrival of animals. These figures were not acceptable to Darren Pritt, whose family owns a privately-held software company in Seattle. And he decided to do something about it.
Working in conjunction with the Lewis County shelter manager Amy Clark and Patty Kaija, president of FOLCAS), the idea took shape. The dream of "no more homeless pets" is alive and well in Lewis County, Washington.
