Network Volunteer Positions: What Does a Resource Specialist Do?

A lot of times people who may be interested in volunteering with the Best Friends Network aren't sure about what exactly our positions are, and which one may be right for them. This article will focus on the Resource Specialist position: what the volunteer duties are and who might be most interested in this position.

Resource Specialists search online to find links for shelters, rescue groups, breed rescues, and anything else they think their community members might be interested in. Once they have found this information, Resource Specialists then add those links to the BF Network community they are working on. Their main goal is to find as much local, and to a lesser extent, national information and helpful links as they can in order to provide a good base of help and information for their community. One of the first places we direct people to when they contact us looking for help, information, or places to volunteer locally is the Resources Tab of the applicable Best Friends Network Community.

Once the information has been posted, Resource Specialists keep the links and documents current and organized, and remove or update any old, outdated material or "dead" links.

Resource Specialists are also always on the lookout for events, seminars, meetings, etc., that are animal, vegetarian, shelter, or earth related and add those to the community calendar so that their community's members can get involved locally and attend these events. Resource Specialists help to get the word out about what's going on across the state, and are a great source of contact for local groups that want to publicize their events.
