Featured Visitor: Goodbye & Hello!

Featured Visitor: Goodbye & Hello!

People visit Best Friends for a variety of reasons; to volunteer, to relax, to learn, to grieve, to adopt.

Featured Visitor: Laughter is the Best...Fundraiser!

Sometimes people that are serious animal lovers get stuck in a pattern of thinking – they feel the only way to truly help the animals is to start a sanctuary. Well, there are a LOT of other ways to help!

This last spring, John Dudas of Cleveland, OH was in the neighborhood of Best Friends.

Featured Visitor: Do This For My Birthday Present"

"I am the Jennifer that Mark mentions in his story – for two and a half months after Hurricane Katrina I deployed volunteers to both Tylertown, Mississippi and then to Celebration Station, in New Orleans, after which I returned to my normal job as a Tour Guide. Mark tells the story much better than I ever could – so with some deletions for length – here is his experience."

Featured Visitor: Brotherly Love

Not everyone would define brotherly love as having your brother in hysterics as he watches you fly through the air, land in the dirt, and be dragged through some bushes – all the while heroically hanging on to the leash of a dog who has seen a lizard; nor would the definition usually include having a brother take (and share!) photos of said incident.

Jasmine was probably saying this to her doggie friends as she left Best Friends, to go to her forever home this last August.

Featured Visitors: Colette & Beau – From Dogs to Diesels

Most visitors travel to Best Friends by automobile, some by motorcycle and a few by bicycle, but big 18 wheeler semi-trucks are rare (unless they’re delivering pet food!).

Welcome Center Goes Back to School

It’s the time of year when “Back To School Sales” are happening in stores all around the nation, and kids are being reluctantly dragged through store aisles by their anxious and excited moms and dads. Here at Best Friends, a similar fever is taking place in Dogtown and Dogtown Heights…it’s called CGC – or Canine Good Citizen.

Toby the File Cabinet Flyer

It’s a bird, it’s a plane, it’s a 30 pound paperweight - no it’s Toby, a 3 year old Blue Heeler, leaping onto the file cabinet in a back office at the Best Friends Welcome Center.

Featured Visitor: A Happy Birthday Blossoms into a Special Delivery for our Sanctuary Animals!

Anne Corrigan decided to celebrate her 54th birthday this year in an extra-ordinary way by inviting her best friends to help our “Best Friends” here at the Sanctuary. Instead of expecting gifts Anne asked her friends to contribute cash and gift cards (based on our Wish List) for the animals and used her party as a fundraiser.

Meet Rocky...

If a small, furry, four-legged animal zips by you at the Welcome Center – then you probably just met “Rocky” a rock squirrel who pays regular visits to the patio water bowl during the summer months. This bold little fellow waits until the coast is clear (meaning no dogs in sight) to quench his thirst.

You can’t miss him! He never misses an opportunity to meet folks coming down to the Best Friend’s pastures. He whinnies to greet you (or as a reminder that it’s chow time) and his nose is always stuck out for a scratch.

Featured Visitor: “School Called” on Account of Visiting Best Friends

When you were a kid, don’t you remember how you wished for summer to come early or prayed for a snowstorm announcement so that you could have a break from school and homework!? Well, Jarad, Tim and Deborah Lowrance’s 10-year old grandson, hit the jackpot when both his schoolteacher and his mother gave him special permission to miss school for a few days this past September to visit Best Friends. Prior to their visit, Jarad and his grandparents had arranged to bring three special needs dogs requiring medical treatment and care to the Sanctuary. During their stay, they acquired information on our housing and care concepts for the animals.
