Come on out on August 1 to share the fun and support Vermont's only (so far!) low-cost spay/neuter clinic
VT-CAN!'s planned opening date is August 11, 2008. Join VT-CAN! for an open house and silent auction on August 1, 2008 from 4-7.
VT-CAN! is gratefully accepting donations for the silent auction. Please contact Pamela with offers of items worth $25 or more.
Grants grant only so muchVT-CAN! has also received generous grants that will cover the cost of most, if not all needed spay/neuter equipment.
The grants do
not cover the cost for remodeling expenses or expenses associated with staff training, but the
Vermont Humane Federation has offered $2500 in matching funds for training expenses. If we can raise $2500, they will contribute another $2500 and that will cover the cost of sending our staff to Asheville, NC for training at the Humane Alliance clinic for a week.
To help VT-CAN! reach this goal and receive the matching funds, please send a donation to:VT-CAN!
P.O. Box 457
Brookfield, VT 05036
Please write "VHF matching funds" in the memo section
Should VT-CAN! raise more than $2500, the money will go towards these additional needs:
♠ $2500 for the cost of bringing the Humane Alliance team here for two additional weeks of training
♠ $7000 for remodeling costs
♠ $15,000-$20,000 towards a financial assistance fund (based on the average SpayED contributed in assistance per animal in one year).
There are many people who cannot afford even low cost fees or VSNIP co-pays and VT-CAN! wants to help them get their dogs and cats spayed or neutered.

Dear Friend of Animals,
Ever since I worked at a large SPCA shelter in Pennsylvania and witnessed literally scores of beautiful animals killed every week because there were not enough homes for them all, I knew that preventing new litters was the most effective and humane way to end pet overpopulation. Here in Vermont, too, shelters are also overwhelmed with homeless, stray, unwanted pets, especially cats, who are euthanized or may remain sheltered for extended periods before being adopted.
But now, it is really happening — we are starting a low cost spay/neuter clinic in Vermont!
Already, coordinating just a couple of clinics per month in various locations has enabled us to help spay or neuter more than 1,000 dogs and cats (and a couple of rabbits too)!
Very quickly, our appointments filled up, and it became clear that what was desperately needed was a stationary clinic that could sterilize 5,000 or more animals per year.VT-CAN! has secured a convenient and accessible location in central Vermont. Volunteers are busy remodeling the new space. We expect to open this summer and we are well on our way! We’ve been accepted as a
National Spay Neuter Response Team (NSNRT) clinic. VT-CAN! will be guided and mentored by the
Humane Alliance, which works with numerous clinics across the country.
We’re also busy writing grant proposals for monies that will enable us to purchase the necessary startup equipment and supplies. Present grants do not cover renovation costs, training for staff, or other non-equipment-related expenses, and clearly these are critical to this endeavor.
That’s why you are receiving this appeal. I know that you have a strong connection to Vermont, that you care about animals, and you may be in a position to make a generous tax-deductible donation. Our goal is to raise $10,000-$15,000 in addition to the grant money already received in order to help make this dream a reality. If we are fortunate enough to exceed our goal, the additional funds will go into our spay/neuter assistance fund to help those who cannot afford even our low fees. With your help, we can make a huge difference in our small state and may even be able to end the tragedy of pet overpopulation!
Thank you,
