I was a Vice-President of the Animal Rescue League of New Bedford, MA that was not, unfortunately, a no-kill shelter. My first order of business there was to shut down the boarding facility and completely revamp it.
After moving to Spring Hill FL in 1995, I, along with my wife Mary, and two others started Greenman's Glen Animal Sanctuary to help save the many unwanted and abused pets in the area. Many of the animals, especially bitbull mixes were not accepted at the SPCA or Humane Society and were usually immediately 'put down' by the animal control. In our first year we adopted out 78 dogs and 63 cats to wonderful homes and had 6 'permanent' residents that were unadoptable.
I have 5 rescues of my own from Florida, one that we adopted from Best Friends, one we rescued from a bad situation, and one foster about a year old, for a total of seven dogs. We can't have a cat because our alpha male, Roscoe, considers them as prey. He's the one in my profile picture.
We moved here to Kanab in March 2005 because we love the area and the people and we wanted to be close to Best Friends so that if anything should happen to both Mary & I we know our "kids" would be well taken care of by Best Friends since our estate goes to them.
I worked at Best Friends, Dogtown from March 15, 2006 to November 6, 2009. I "retired" to work fulltime at my non-paying job with Kane Humane Project, Inc., a rescue my wife, Mary, and I started in May 2008 because there is no animal control or shelter in Kane County, UT where we live.
