My name is Melissa and I am a happy canine mom, living in the Salt Lake area.I am starting my own dog walking and pet care business, you can check it out here:http://woof-slc.com/My two dogs, along with my husband and I, lived out of a camper for a whole year and traveled and rock climbed all over North America. My dogs are travelers, and leap into the car whenever they hear the keys jingle- they are always up for an adventure. An update: Tiggs was diagnosed with Auto Immune Hemolytic Anemia on July 16, 2008 and has been fighting this terrible disease so hard ever since. He is so strong, he always inspires me. And through transfusions, pills, and fatigue he always seems to have a smile, tail wag, and a big kiss for everyone. He's doing much better now, and was able to visit Best Friends with his big 'sister' Winnie. He looked happier and healthier than he has in months! BF worked it's magic on him!Every dog lover should learn about AIHA. It is a deadly and not uncommon disease that can strike so fast, and has up to an 80% mortality rate. AIHA is when the body begins attacking it's own red blood cells. The symptoms include:*fatigue*not eating*pale gums/tongue*reddish urine and stoolAIHA is treated aggressively with steroids and other immunosuppressive drugs, as well as blood transfusions from donor dogs. **Final thoughts: I am rather shocked by the number of Network Members who support anti Breed Specific Legislation who also list PETA among their favorite charities. PETA supports BSL, and euthanasia of pit bulls. You can read their position here on their own website, but I can tell you this has been sugarcoated. PETA is NOT a friend or advocate to pit bulls:http://www.peta.org/about/hottopic007.asp
