My family and I have been running a cat rescue in rural Louisiana since 1997. We have many animals; most of which are cats. We also have dogs, a goat, rabbits, rats, ferrets, and birds. The adoptable cats and dogs are fixed and fully vetted before being made available on our Petfinder site. The exotic animals are also vetted before being made available for adoption. We also quarantine and foster, mostly cats and sometimes dogs, for area rescues who pull from Lafayette Animal Control. On January 1, 2007, My Cat Ranch merged with Acadiana Humane Society, a 501c3 non-profit animal rescue. I took over as President of the larger combined rescue group. We now have foster homes in and around Lafayette Parrish, as well as St. Landry Parish, and are always looking for more fosters and volunteers. We are currently building a hurricane safe cat shelter. The outer walls and roof are up, and an air conditioner/heater is installed. Max Pro Windows donated three hurricane safety windows. But, we still need to raise funds for the interior walls, plumbing, flooring, etc. Once our hurricane safe cat shelter is completed, our quarantine area will be much improved and we will be able to help save more cats from Lafayette Animal Control and other area animal control facilities. It will also serve as a shelter during hurricane evacuations for our cats in foster homes below I-10.
