I am a volunteer at a local no-kill shelter. I participate in Jack Russell Terrier rescue for several Midwest states (and two of my foster dogs are now permanent members of my family, OkeyDokey and SuzQ). I have also been a volunteer at BF numerous times. But, my three trips to New Orleans to participate in disaster animal rescue were a lifetime experience for me involving search and rescue, humane trapping, setting up food and water stations, and working with Best Friends at Celebration Station. One of the most memorable events for me was participation in a dog reunion with his owners...that was what it was all about! We were also able to reunite two of the cats we brought back with their owners. I have two cats, both rescue, named Honey and Prissy. I now have two additional cats - Kitrina who joined my pets when I brought her home from NO in Sept. '05, and Attica - so named because I rescued her out of an attic - who joined us in Nov. '05. Recently, Maggie has joined our family in Oct. '06. Maggie is one of the Lebanon war zone kitties airlifted out of Beirut by BF...I named her Maggie after one of the BETA co-founders in Lebanon who actually rescued Maggie out of a tunnel in the war zone with vehicles zooming all around her. The most loving little creature from Pahrump has actually chosen me by being on the top of the cages at Pussycat Lounge, crawling onto my shoulders to hitch a ride down the ladder, only to crawl back up the back of the cages and be waiting for me to get back up the ladder over and over! Hemingway (a polydactyl with 24 toes) has already settled into our family, and we are busy making up for what he went through at Pahrump. I have volunteered at Little Lebanon, FLOCK and the Nye County Shelter, and the Pussycat Lounge. I am a member of the BF Rapid Response Team. I also participated in the BF TNR Program in Randolph, IA.
