Currently I volunteer with Best Friends as the coordinator of the Point Loma Holiday Home Tour in San Diego which will benefit the First Home Forever Home campaign.
My husband and I adopted Frankie in December 2004 from BestFriends. We were not looking for a dog. Frankie picked us! My sister was fostering Frankie and tryiing to socialize him since he'd had such a terrible past being one of the infamous Baldwin Park Chihuahua's. That Thanksgiving, we visited Las Vegas where my sister lives and she asked if we wanted to take a hike in the Red Rock Canyon with her and her dogs. Well, she brought Frankie, too. Frankie was less than friendly but he made eye contact with me and Cathy said "that's huge"! I couldn't stop thinking about him andI convinced my husband that we were the ones to adopt this little guy. He needed us. Well, I was right. Cathy brought him to us that Christmas and it will be five years December 23rd. We almost didn't make it through the first month, it was so tough but then Frankie turned a corner and decided to trust us. He is still very fearful of people and dogs but is very 'normal' and happy with us. He goes to work with me everyday in my antiques store and has found a safe little hiding place where people can't see him. He comes out and visits with people now and then, something he never would have done a couple of years ago. We walk on the beach and bay every week and he loves to be out in the yard while we garden. He has a great routine, he's healthy and is one happy little guy! I will be forever grateful to my sister Cathy and Bestfriends for rescuing the worst of the Baldwin Park Chihuahua's so that Frankie could find his way to us. I can't imagine life without him.
