SPCA of Texas to host upcoming low-cost microchip clinic on Saturday, August 16.
By Alicia Brown, SPCA of TexasWHAT: You and your beloved pets are invited to join the
SPCA of Texas on Saturday, August 16, 2008 as we microchip furry family members for the discounted price of $20 at the McKinney and Village Fair clinics.
Dogs and cats should be microchipped and tagged to make sure they can be reunited with their human companions should they become lost. Microchipping is a quick, non-surgical process which involves injecting a sterile microchip—about the size of a rice grain between a pet’s shoulder blades. Each chip has an unalterable ID code that enables animal shelters and veterinarians to locate owners should pets become lost.
WHY: Each year, more than 10 million pets are lost and more than half are not wearing collars or ID tags by the time they reach a shelter. The cost of handling these lost pets is nearly $1 billion a year.
WHEN/WHERE: Saturday, August 16, 2008
Appointments necessary.
To schedule an appointment, call 214-742-SPCA (7722).
•
Martin Clinic at Village Fair , 4830 Village Fair Dr., Dallas
•
Perry Clinic, 8411 Stacy Rd./FM 720 (near Custer Road), McKinney
COST: $20 per pet which includes registration in the national database.
TWO THINGS YOU CAN DO:
1. The
American Humane website reports that , “about 1 million dogs and 584,000 cats are taken into U.S. animal shelters as strays each year. Sadly, only 15 percent of those dogs and 2 percent of those cats are reunited with their owners.”
Do not be a part of that statistic. Make sure you get your pet microchipped. If your beloved animal accidentally escapes your home or yard, identification such as a microchip and collar with tags may be all that is needed to reunite the two of you together again.
2. If your pet is already microchipped, please make sure that your contact information is up to date. Microchipping is pointless if your address, phone number, and e-mail are no longer accurate.
