Help elephant retire to a sanctuary.
Make a sign or bring a banner to join others in support of Jenny the elephant. After 22 years of being on exhibit at the Dallas Zoo, Jenny is now the facility’s only African elephant, following the passing of Keke this past May. Highly intelligent and social animals, this solitary existence is unfair and the zoo has decided to close the elephant exhibit.
However, instead of choosing to retire Jenny to a large acreage sanctuary setting with other African elephants, they have selected to send her to a safari zoo in Mexico. There she will no longer be protected by America’s anti-cruelty and animal welfare laws and will once again be subject to a life in a small exhibit without the company of other elephants of her same species.
This is not right and it is up to the public to let the zoo officials and Dallas legislators know this decision is unacceptable. Help show your support of Jenny transfer to
The Elephant Sanctuary in Tennessee, instead of the zoo in Mexico, by attending the peacefully rally in front of the zoo.
Date: Sunday, July 27
Time: 1:00 – 2:00 p.m.
Place: Lawn at front entrance of Dallas Zoo (by the giraffe statue)
650 South R.L. Thornton Freeway
Dallas, Texas
HOW YOU CAN HELP:
1. Attend Sunday’s rally to show your support for Jenny’s retirement to a sanctuary, as opposed transferring her to another zoo. High attendance is necessary to show city and zoo officials that citizens believe this to be an important issue.
2. Telephone or e-mail Mayor Leppert to
politely to voice your opinion on Jenny. Please do this whether or not you live in Dallas.

Dallas Morning News to support relocating Jenny to the sanctuary in Tennessee in reference to yesterday’s article,
Dallas News: Debate heats up over new home for Dallas Zoo's lone elephant . Also, be sure to vote
no in the newspaper’s
survey whether elephants should be kept in zoos.
