SPCA of Texas was awarded custody yesterday of 83 dogs rescued from a Lone Star, Texas property on July 10 as well as $5,810 in restitution for the care and treatment of the animals over the last seven days. The hearing was held at the Justice of the Peace Precinct 1 court in Marshall, Texas.
Under the authority of the Marion County Sheriff’s department, the SPCA of Texas seized 80 dogs on Thursday, July 10 from a property in Lone Star, Texas, which is northwest of Jefferson, Texas in Marion County. The person who had been in care, custody and control of the animals, Barbara Holz, was arrested by Marion County officials that morning. She had apparently been squatting on the property and may face charges for that offense. She currently remains in jail.
All of the original 80 dogs, in addition to three more that were born following the rescue, are being housed at the
Perry Animal Care Center in McKinney. They are already on the road to recovery thanks to the dedicated SPCA staff and volunteers who are nurturing them night and day.
The animals will be individually evaluated for potential adoption or placement on a case by case basis.
