New Reveille may break recent tradition and return to the original.
If ever a school was enveloped in tradition, it would be Texas A&M. Recently though, the university is interested in increasing its diversity and that concept may be extended to it new mascot. Reveille VII, the current mascot at Texas A&M, is retiring and there is now a storm of controversy surrounding her successor.
A committee is being formed to select a Reveille VIII and many Aggies are calling for change. The current Reveille and five of her predecessors have all been purebred American collies. While many wish to carry on the collie tradition, in a recent poll by the Bryan-College Station Eagle newspaper, the majority of respondents would like to return to the original, as Reveille I was a mixed breed mutt.
If they do choose to continue the collie tradition, let’s hope A&M decides to adopt a dog from one of the Texas collie rescues:
•
Houston Collie Rescue•
Collie Rescue Austin•
DWF Collie Rescue•
Collie Rescue San AntonioOtherwise, there are literally thousands of homeless canines to choose from at local animal shelters who would be honored to be the new Reveille VIII.
