For years the animal protection societies as well as several hundred individuals have fought to close down the infamous dog pound in the city of Puerto Real (province of Cádiz) inappropriately named "El Refugio" (The Refuge) but far more commonly known as the "House of Horrors" due to the horrific stories of abuse and mass burials, etc.

I received the following story of Cain from Maria José of Refugio Kimba, about a dog who was adopted after spending nearly his entire life at the Kimba shelter. Before I was able to publish his story, we received the sad the news that Cain had died. It comforts us to know that he spent the final year of his life being showered with love and all kinds of comforts.
