Stop Puppy Mills—Adopt a Shelter Pet!

October 31, 2007 : 6:48 PM
Best Friends to host a New York adoption event on Nov. 10th

On November 10th, Best Friends will be hosting an event in celebration of rescue groups and shelters who work hard to place pets in loving homes. The public is invited to come out to meet rescued dogs—from Bassett Hounds to Rottweilers and everything in between!

After Best Friends rescued nearly 200 dogs from a commercial breeder in Virginia, we received over 1,000 applications from hopeful adopters. With so many interested people, and lots of pets looking for homes, we decided to “connect the dots” to do our part to put as many great pets in homes as possible. The best part? Every animal adopted is an animal not purchased from a pet store, over the Internet or through the newspaper.

In fact, shelters are full of pets who were bred for sale in stores, online or through newspaper ads. It’s estimated that 20% of animals in shelters are purebreds. Here’s a chance to pick up that slack left by irresponsible breeders—adopting shelter pets instead of buying is the very best way to stop puppy mills!

All pets at the event are spayed or neutered, vaccinated and come with a lifetime supply of love. A list of attending rescue groups will be ready shortly—stay tuned...

What: Rescue Me Adoption
When: Saturday, November 10th, 11:00-4:00 (Rain or Shine!)

Thanks to all the hard work by staff and volunteers, 52 animals found new homes yesterday at the Rescue Me adoption event! That's including the other rescue groups in addition to our own critters. Amazing job done by all yesterday!

I'd love to know, too. Hopefully some of the Pets Alive dogs got adopted along with many from the other rescue groups. We'd love details!

Keep up the great work. It will be a perfect day when all of these puppy mills are shut down and the owners could receive capital punishment. There is a special place in hell for those people. I just adopted an 8 month old puppy mill survivor rescue and he is doing extremely well with my other 3 adoptees considering all he has been through. He is an amazing, loving , sweetest little guy.
