Founder of Dogs Deserve Better plans to appeal.
In a Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania courtroom today, Judge Elizabeth Doyle sentenced Tammy Grimes, the Founder of Dogs Deserve Better, to a $1,700 fine, 300 hours of community service, and probation for one year. Judge Doyle also dictated that Grimes remove all images of Doogie from her website and cease profiting from merchandise depicting his image. Doogie is the sick and elderly dog whom Grimes rescued off a chain in September 2006. She was arrested and later convicted of theft and receiving stolen property this past December.
In a
video posted on YouTube last week, Grimes requested jail time because she could not ethically pay any fine assigned to her. Grimes’ lawyer believes her sentence violates the First Amendment and vows to appeal.
