Reminder: Friday we honor the Great Kitty Rescue angels at Best Friends

March 24, 2008 : 12:18 AM
The Dedication Ceremony for the Pahrump cats is less than a week away and so far we’ve heard from more than a dozen of the volunteers from The Great Kitty Rescue who will be making the pilgrimage to participate!

We encourage all of you to join us, in body or in spirit, for this important ceremony at 5:30 p.m. next Friday March 28.

Complete details are posted on the Best Friends Network at Dedication Ceremony at Best Friends for Great Kitty Rescue angels.

If you are planning to attend in person, please review guidelines explaining memorials at Angels’ Rest in the Resources tab of this community.

We request that you also bring:

One flower (for those who are traveling or forget, a flower will be provided)

Gloves (to participate in the placement of markers. (wood markers are splintery and metal markers have sharp edges)

Photos – to place under glass on tables. Photos can be picked up after the ceremony, or left for possible placement with of the original memorial pole that will be on display in the welcome center. Photos can include both deceased cats and those that are still with us.

If you are interested in volunteering with the Pahrump cats who have been moved to the Sanctuary, please contact our volunteer department at volunteers@bestfriends.org.

As always, thank you for everything you have done and continue to do to help the Pahrump cats.

Perhaps, aminvolved, I can help clear up some of your misconceptions. It’s obvious you didn’t know much about Best Friends before you joined the Network, but once you were here a quick search would have revealed the truth, that not only does Best Friends maintain a beautiful cemetery, Angels Rest, where the animals who pass at the sanctuary are lovingly laid to rest, they also have resources for Best Friends Members who have lost beloved pets.

It would have only taken a few seconds to use the Search feature to find 638 references to Angels Rest and 768 to Pet Loss Support. Among those references you would have found:

The Angels Rest Memorials: ; donations accepted, but not required even though two Best Friends paid staff members work on these memorials, creating the individual web pages, then preparing printed copies to be mailed to the sender.

Three articles on Pet Loss on the first page of the Pet Care Library: free

A Pet Loss Support Forum in the small Best Friends Members and Pets Forum: free

The Prayers, Healing and Support Community on the Network: free

One of the things that most impressed me on my first visit to Best Friends in the spring of 1994 was the existence of Angels Rest. It spoke volumes to me about how much Best Friends cares about the animals in their care. Later in that same year I became an online volunteer in a forum managed by Best Friends on the Compuserve online service. My task there was to encourage activity in the Pet Loss Support board in that forum, and to bring the Candle Ceremony to that forum. Need I mention that this service was also free?

Yes, youshouldbeashamedtobeinvolved, BF does have memorial services for every animal that passes away while in their care. And there are no ticket takers at the gates to Angel's Rest.

this monument is a very nice gesture but does bf have any other memorials for the animals that have passed while in their care?? it makes me wonder whether this memorial was built out of respect for the cats or just as another way to collect monies for bf?? MAYBE WE SHOULD JUST LET THESE PETS REST IN PEACE INSTEAD OF EXPLOITING THEM FOR PERSONAL GAIN.
