Wilmington officers honored during the First Annual NC Week for the Animals 2008.

The First Annual North Carolina Week for the Animals will feature Community Service Awards from Best Friends Animal Society and local animal rescuers honoring hometown heroes who work with animals.
K-9 officers in Wilmington are applauded for helping animals give to the community. Some K-9 dogs are rescued from shelters, giving them a new chance at life and a special purpose.
Kim Loyd, President of Duplin Animal Rescue Team, will present the Wilmington area awards at Watermark Marina on May 8 at 6pm.
Local K-9 officers receiving the honor are Officer K.J. Vithalani and canine Arko; Officer C. Seitter and canine Huck; Offcier D. Pelligreno and canine Dion; and Sergeant K.B. Johnson and canine Rudy. All are members of the Directed Patrol Division Canine Unit of the Wilmington Police Department.
