The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (
ASPCA) was founded on April 10, 1866. This was the first humane organization in the Western Hemisphere. The idea was to alleviate all the injustices that animals were facing back then and that remains the same today.
On Thursday April 10th, you are welcome to join many cities, corporations and schools that will be celebrating
ASPCA Day. You can lend the ASPCA your voice by dressing, yourself, your kids, your pets, your co-workers and friends in orange. The ASPCA has an online
community group that you can visit to share ideas and get ideas for this year.
Also in celebration of ASPCA Day, ASPCA is happy to announce the 2008 ASPCA Day Community Leader Contest. This is the second annual contest with a successful turnout in 2007. The contest is sponsored by Iams Dog and Cat Foods.
From the ASPCA: How are you planning to celebrate ASPCA Day? Are you dressing yourself, your pet (even your community!) in orange on April 10? Organizing a pet parade in your neighborhood? Getting your town hall to light up orange? Whatever your plans, you might want to step them up a notch or two… because beginning April 11, 2008, we want you to show us how you went orange on ASPCA Day and spread awareness of the importance of preventing cruelty to animals in your community.
