"Used Pets Hard to Sell" the director says....
The director of Central Humane Society in Grand Island says there's no profit in the used pet business.
The Humane Society asked the Council for a 53 percent increase in funding for next fiscal year, which begins October 1st. That's an increase of more than $80,000.
The Council wants to pay the Humane Society $160,000 next year, just a two percent increase. The Humane Society is asking for more than $241,000.
Council members suggested the Society raise adoption fees. But Director Brad Driml says that would result in $240 to $350 mutts, which would be a hard sell.
Driml says if the city can't increase the funding, he'll have to cut costs by ending some of the services the Humane Society provides for the city.
