Pet Safety and Protection Study

March 4, 2006 : 12:00 AM
Michigan in Top Five!

Despite Kentucky's love affair with horses, The Animal League Defense Fund named Kentucky as one of the "best states to be an animal abuser. "

Kentucky joins Hawaii, Idaho, North Dakota, and Utah on the list of states with the weakest animal protection laws.

The Defense Fund claims because Kentucky doesn't place restrictions on the future ownership of animals by convicted abusers it doesn't have the animals' best interest at heart.

The Defense Fund reviewed laws and statutes in all 50 states during the study.

California, Maine, Michigan, Illinois, and Oregon were named as the five states with the strongest animal protection laws.
