Susan and Justin have been working with different animal rescues doing whatever we can to help-usually fostering litters of puppies without mothers-including bottle babies. That is how we ended up with so many. Maricopa county is claiming to be well on the road to "No Kill." The months that they have claimed not to have euthanized any adoptable cat or dog is misleading. They use temperment testing to decide who is and isn't adoptable as well as health status. With this method, you can claim all "adoptables" were not euthanized. None of our animals would pass their test, but, as you can see, they get along just fine.Living in an area with such a high population of stray and unwanted animals, we are constantly picking up dogs from the fields and running across the streets. While they do have to go through Animal Care and Control, we have a set-up for them to wait to be picked up and get a nice cozy place to stay until then. It's hard to do knowing that they may never go up for adoption, but it does increase their chances of survival as people speed through here and leave injured dogs and hit them with their cars and do not stop. Almost every day, I see a dead dog in the road or on the side of the road because it was hit by a car. My drive to work is about 5 miles. To know that voters declined the additional homeowner's taxes to increase the number of Animal Control Officers is heartwrenching. Instead, we have to pay for dead animal pick-up. We work to get information to whomever we can. We want to educate the public. We want to volunteer at these events. We don't have enough time to do it all.Right now, we volunteer whenever an event comes up and we are willing to do more as people need the help.
