General Background:16 years of companion animal rescue and welfare volunteerism. Started in cat rescue and TNR, which continues. Founded and served as Pres./Exec. Dir. of Prevent a Litter Coalition (PaLC) to work on public education and preventative programs re pet o.p and S/N. "Retired" from that (once USPS S/N Stamp, obtained) to take care of my mother who had a long decline due to Alzheimer's. Just recently finished a stint developing and running a cat adoption outreach program for a local humane society. Experience and Accomplishments.--I try to focus on work that is collaborative and "preventative of the problem.": Implemented multi-group adoption outreach programs, the first in our area;Initiated and managed cat adoption outreach, including foster parent program and adoption events; Developed and ran annual local to regional media campaigns re S/N creating a coalition, including rescue groups, public and private shelters, veterinarians, pet-related retailers/services, businesses, government, celebrities, media; Campaign efforts went statewide, then national...Developed and directed campaigns to obtain VA Animal Friendly License Plate to fund S/N's in VA, and "Stamp Out Pet Overpopulation" Campaign, culminating in the USPS S/N Stamp to raise awareness and facilitate S/N's, nationally. Received Legislative Achievement Awards from HSUS and VA Federation of Humane Societies; "The Ellie Award," for billboard psa excellence. Accomplishment of the USPS Stamps received Genesis Award and HSUS recognition as one of top achievements for the year. Helped form and served on Fairfax County Animal Services Advisory Commission. Serve on Metropolitan Washington D.C. Council of Governments (COG) Animal Services Task Force, presently on Disaster Preparedness and Education SubCommittees Present Activities:Launching community-based educational programs re animals, to start with seminars featuring "experts" in aspects re including pets in the family disaster preparedness planning. Working to facilitate the expansion of reduced-cost S/N services in our region. Advise, do research and facilitate projects for various animal-related efforts/groups.
