    Today's update: October 1, 2009
I haven't been on BF for a while. I find it hard to get around. I haven't finished what I started here with me cats I took care of.
I will, then maybe I'll post it in a blog now that I feel it is safe.

    Today's update: August 8,2009
I am happy to see that there is The Great Kitty Rescue Group. I love reading the stories of the volunteers.

I'm still going to work on my story here. I got the photos and links figured out but I notice that some of the words
are cut off on the right margin. These margins are driving me crazy.

    Today's update: July 25th, 2009
With the help of a friend, Felis_sapien  I hope to figure out how to get the links to work.

    Today's update: July 22nd, 2009

Going to try to post photos. The links are still not working. OK read the manual..what manual?

Thoughts about the Nye County Cats

I haven't spent much time, or any time, on my blog Before Best Friends.

Now that I am taking a look at it I am hoping to first finish it. There are a few weeks yet to write about.

Then if I can master the photo posting into blogs I will write a new blog about the time

from January to March 2007 when I first stepped on to the FLOCK property.

I have it all written down.

I want to remember these kitties. These are the kitties I took home because they all

needed special care. Best Friends took them in August. I wonder where they are now.

Best Friends photographer, Troy Snow took incredible photos of all the cats.

I've pasted in the links to the photos of the cats I cared for. I don't know how to insert them to be clickable...yet.  He has them all on Flickr.

Ella - She was very tired of living and just needed to rest. Later with BF she did get sick and I don't know what

happened to her. I visited her a few times while she was in the hospital.

I loved Ella. Below is Ella, gray and white in Cabin 6 where all the cats I took care of went.

Gemini is the orange cat. I don't know the black and white.

Gemini - itchy cat. He had horrible skin condition.

    Gemini's blog

    Troy's photo of Gemini

Khufu -FIV pos Black, ear infection that made him walk crooked. I don't know what happened to him. He was very sweet. He was one of the cats who I kept in the bathroom because his balance was not the best.

Chopin: He lived through the hell of FLOCK and came out looking good. It's Chopin not Showpan.

    Troy's photo of Chopin

    Sunset

    Troy's photo of Sunset

Nakita - Cheryl took to her home (adopted)

Sasha - Critical Cat One, later called CC (I watched him get adopted)

    Asa - eye removed

    Troy's photo of Asa

This is Ipo the day after her eye surgery. Gemini in the background.

Ipo - eye removed, second eye had surgery too, fur full of foxtails. Ipo means sweetheart in Hawaiian. She was such a luv. Small and sweet as can be.

    Troy's photo of Ipo

Captain Jack Sparrow - FeLV pos,eye removed (crossed)

Troy's photo of Captain Jack Sparrow

Miss Relivee' - recently spayed, super thin. She was a hoot. I named her Miss Relivee' because she would always reach up my leg as far as she could and looked like she had on ballet leg warmers. She was missing most of her hair. So cute.

    Troy's photo of Miss Relivee'

Wilson - full of mud, thin

    Kiki - little kitten

    Tink -little kitten

Soloman - tilted head, ears full of crud

    Troy's photo of Solomon

Dusty- abscess on his face (100th adoption) Dusty did not like staying in Cabin 6.

Instead ran around the yard greeting friends.

    Troy's photo of Dusty

    Sampson - calicivirus

Hope - URI (adopted by someone in Pahrump)

    Hermionie - URI, matted fur

Cabbie - FIV pos, very weak and thin, microchiped, reunited with owner, Jeanette.

Maxwell - crossed, oh so thin

Julian - crossed, oh so thin

Miss Swiss - FeLV, microchipped, belonged to NSPCA & returned her there

Pixal - young deaf feral (living with me)

Poppet - Kitten small and thin (crossed, lived with me)

Flame Point Siamese kitten - went to Cheryl's, adopted by Shelly

Here is a comment I wrote on my own blog

Another Day of Netting and Giving Fluids
      Written Sun, Mar 23 2008 7:05 AM

Every day I would tell Cheryl, "Take more pictures" after her camera would die I would say

"Be sure and charge your camera". I so wished there could have been a film crew

    there shooting a documentary.

When we got home at night we would keep our shoes outside and walk in bare foot to the bathroom where I took off my clothes and put them in a covered tub.

My cats were not as lucky as Cheryl's. I have had numerous problems with hair loss not just from ringworm but from mites/mange, runny eyes and more. I'm still unable to adopt out my fosters. Our vet has been so kind to work with me on these health issues. Vet bills aren't cheap.

At night after leaving the sanctuary I would come home to another 2 hours of work. The cats that were in the RV that moved into my house and my own cats. I kept the FLOCK cats separated the best I could but things can be air borne and I did have a bunch in my bathroom that we all used. I soon decided that if my cats were to become contaminated it was worth it for what I was doing to help so many more. Anyone want to adopt a not so perfect cat? I have a few too many.

I can not understand how anyone can say that no one should be prosecuted for what happened to these cats. One Las Vegas vet that currently takes care of FLOCK cats, told me that it (FLOCK sanctuary) started out as a good thing and just got out of hand and that it's been taken care of and there shouldn't be any prosecution. My mouth dropped.

Our family grew to love each and every one of the cats I brought home. We kept them for I think almost 3 months. I'll have to check my records but I had over 20 cats. As Cheryl would say, I had the worst of the worst, meaning the ones that really needed hands on care.

When Best Friends was ready to take them from me I was so happy for them and so sad for me. It was hard to let them go to be adopted by people I didn't know or could keep in touch with.

I did go to one adoption at the Petsmart in Summerlin where a few of them were adopted and I was able to speak with their new owners, but they really didn't connect with me. It just made me cry. I would walk down the isles of Petsmart and cry where no one could see me. How could anyone understand how I was feeling. (tears)

You know I am here for you Denise and feel the same as you do about the cats from the Nye County Rescue. And we are not alone - there are so many people that care about where and how each of these cats are doing. You are not alone and either are the cats...
