I have been caring for Fergus for over 5 years now. I first met him when I contacted a Shar Pei rescue and was told that there was a dog that had been abandoned in the backyard of a Las Vegas home. The previous owners had chosen to leave him behind when they made their move to the east coast. Fergus was tied up in the backyard of a house with a note attached to him and a bag of dog food. When I drove over to see him I instantly fell in love. Although my apartment did not allow pets. I said that I would take him. I made a promise to him and myself that I would do better by him than they had done before. We lived in my apartment for two years. We would take our walks at other locations and mostly go out at night. I was happy there with Fergus.

Recently, as of approximately two weeks ago, Fergus has become very ill. He has lost over 15 pounds. The doctors say that it is the most difficult case that they have ever seen. They are not able to diagnose what is wrong with him. They have performed x-rays, ultra sounds (with a variety of machines) and taken blood work almost every other day. They still can not tell what is wrong. They say that there appears to be hemorrhaging in his lungs or a tumor. They also say that his blood platelet count is very low. He is in desperate need of a diagnosis so that he can receive the proper medication that he needs to get better. The doctors would like to send Fergus to be taken care of by a specialist. The specialist care alone cost hundreds of dollars. They also want to send Fergus to the University of California at Davis for evaluation. He also is in need of a blood transfusion that alone costs $950.00.

I am an out of work school teacher (8 months) who has given many years of service working with disadvantaged children. Our veterinarian bills are already over $2,000.00. We can not afford the trip to Davis or the additional tests and care that can be performed and given right here in Las Vegas.

Our vet has been kind enough to allow us to establish a fund in Fergus' name through the hospital. If you are able and if you can contribute a donation to get Fergus his tests and a proper diagnosis, I know that God repay your kindness. I have cared for Fergus for 5 years and I will continue to do so as long as I am able. If you are only able to contribute a penny, it will help Fergus to get the treatment he needs. He is ill and the doctors want to give him a blood transfusion soon. PLEASE give what you can. We are on a DAY TO DAY basis. Every amount will help. Please hurry he is weak and needs his medicine.

Checks can be sent to the hospital and they can be made out to our vet or the hospital its self WITH A NOTE saying that it is for Fergus ~ Garza.

I am not interested in assistance for the expenses that have already incurred (this has been made clear to the vet). I only want to get a diagnosis for Fergus and get for him the medicine he needs.

FERGUS passed away ~ April 21st, 2009 9:32 pm Pacific Time.

He was at home and went in the direction of the light. He will spend the rest of his days with God at the eternal dogie park.
