I am a volunteer at SAFE Haven for Cats in Raleigh NC and Cat Angels in Cary NC. My husband and I have four cats, Kiki , Maui Vinnie and Renny. All are "special needs". Maui was born without any eyes, but as far as she is concerned she's normal :-). Kiki was surrendered to our vet by a rescuer because she had a very bad leg fracture and had to have it amputated. This does not slow her down, she can climb our 7ft cat tree just as fast as her sister :-). Vinnie was another find from out vet. She had seen him at Second Chance Pet Adoption and thought he would make a good addition to our family since he was blind too. She was right! He was blinded due to neglect of a severe eye infection. He is our "lover" His primary goal in life is to find a lap. We also call him our "WalMart Greeter" because he comes to the door anytime someone visits. Renny is our most recent addition. He came to SAFE Have for Cats as a kitten with a very bad bite wound on his back. We're pretty sure he was blind from birth. He is a bit more insecure about his condition than the others. Who could blame him after being attacked. We are continuing to work on building his confidence. His favorite past time is to sit on our screen porch and "watch" the birds, squirrels and other wild life. It provides him and the others non stop entertainment!I made my first visit to Best Friends in December of 2005 and I've been hooked ever since! I manage to get out there twice a year and wish I could go more!
