Hi my name is Becky. I just volunteered for the first time at Best Friends and I can't wait to go back. I have 3 dogs of my own and recently moved my Mom and her rescue dog in. I fell in love with my rescue dog Rusty one day when I went to Petsmart. He was hid under a chair. I just couldn't leave him there. He was shy, nervous and looked kind of grungy. Today he is full of life and love. I brought my Moms rescue home after his recently adopted family was bringing him back due to seperation anxiety. He was going to be deemed unadoptable because of his behavior. Well I couldn't have that. I took him home and my Mom fell in love with him and she is home all day. At the time my Dad went into the hospital so I brought "Buddy" to my place with my 3 dogs so he wouldn't be lonely. Well he saw me leave through the door into the garage and when I got home I found out he had made it half way through the wall trying to follow me. No I wasn't mad I just felt really bad for him. He is now over his major anxiety but it comes out once in awhile with a whine but he is just one big love bug now. I have 2 other dogs Shadow a Lab and Snickers a German Pinscher. I also have a kitten I have hand raised from 2 days of age. This has been one of the most rewarding experiences. Everyone kept telling me he wouldn't live but guess what, he is a beautiful cat now and spoiled rotten. His name is Oreo. Despite having my own 4 dogs and cat I am attempting to work out a schedule to volunteer at a near by rescue here near where I live. I plan on going to Best Friends a minimum of once every 3 to 4 months. Its only a 6 hour drive and the unconditional love is addictive and I have never met such wonderful people anywhere else.
The love I feel for these animals is beyond words. I want to help and love them all. People tell me "you can't save them all" I respond "No but I can sure try" My heart just melts. My dream is to one day work full time in helping the rescue effort. I also want to have a therapy dog to go around and visit hospitals, senior centers, etc.
