THE ASSOCIATION OF SHELTER VOLUNTEERS and ANIMAL LIFE ACTIVISTS (BGD) is a civil organization that aims in helping to find a solution to Turkey’s hopeless and hundreds of years old “homeless street animal” problem; which especially in Turkey’s rural areas, has not been solved by associated and responsible groups or approached by through technological means. The principles of THE ASSOCIATION OF SHELTER VOLUNTEERS and ANIMAL LIFE ACTIVISTS (BGD) were stated by its Chief Founder Y.Ozgur Guven in 2004: “I need to do something for the street animals.” In Eksi Sozluk (a Turkish internet encyclopedia) under “Animal Shelter Help Campaign” all the animal right advocates in the network joined to form the group of Shelter Volunteers that then chose the Tuzla Rehabilitation Center to begin their work. In April 2006, BGD, an authorized and completely volunteer based organization, united to work on Turkey’s shelter and rehabilitation centers, problem of street animals and protection of animal right laws. Besides this, BGD also supports certain international actions concerning worldwide animal protection.
