I am a 911 dispatcher for the Woodridge Police Department in Illinois. Prior to my coming inside to work the 911 center, I was a community service/animal control officer. I have been working for the police department for the last 17 yrs. I started as a volunteer when I was 16. I have always wanted to be a K-9 officer. Unfortunately, do to medical issues that never came to be. It is still a dream of mine to work with animals, train police dogs and raise horses. I have always wanted to be a dolphin trainer too. I'm too old for that now LOL.I am recently married and my husband loves animals just as much as I do. We hope to have kids one day, if we can't have kids of our own we're going to adopt and adopt more dogs! We have a Austrailan shepherd mix. She is 4 years old. I adopted her when she was just 3 weeks old. We received a call about a puppy left abandoned in an apartment hallway, we sent an officer out, and it turned out to be my Shelby now. I took her home shortly after the call. I had recently lost my German shepherd from bloat at the time, so she couldn't have come at a better time. She is just like a kid in some respects, and she is the best thing ever. I also have sponsored a dog from Best Friends. Her name is Daphne. I applaud all the work Best Friends and ASPCA do. I love to watach Animal Planet. I give to HSUS and WWF and Defenders of Wildlife on a regular basis. I wish I could do more. I try to do what I can by working at the pd. If we all work together, little by little it will be a better world for all of God's creatures. October 2009 Update, I have since had a son. He is 18 months old. He loves his dogs and he loves horses. He is already growing up with an appreciation and respect for all animals and life. When I found out I was pregnant with my son my husband and I bought a shetland sheepdog. His name is Rascal. He lives up to his name sake. Shelby and Rascal get a long great..now. Shelby is getting up there in age, so Rascal helps with her exercise.
