Help find Lillie a home!

March 5, 2008 : 12:21 PM
Although she can't hear you, she understands and communicates just fine!

Lillie is a spayed female approximately 5-year-old, micro-chipped, 65lb, athletic, graceful presumed American Bulldog Great Dane Pit mix. She’s very sweet and affectionate and at times needy, so she would do best with someone who can give her a lot of love and attention and doesn’t have other pets. Lillie loves the beach and has been going on 3-hour hikes every weekend along with some doggy and human hiking buddies. She loves freedom and has a beautiful gait.

Lillie is deaf and that sometimes causes a problem around other dogs. She’s very friendly, but if another dog challenges her or acts aggressive around her she has a hard time understanding what’s going on and she can become a bit defensive. However, she can be friendly with small dogs.

Her deafness makes her a little needy for affection which some may find endearing. She doesn't wake up and bark when there's someone at the door and she sleeps through the night and is very good on leash. She's very affectionate and grateful, but despite all her qualities she needs to be with a true animal lover who doesn't see her deafness as a mere disability but rather, as something both intriguing and challenging . She responds to “sit”, “lie down” and “come” with hand signals. She learns fast with love and positive training.

Lillie’s rescuer Engin is looking for a foster home for her, so that in a year or year and a half when her new property is ready, she can take Lillie back to a bigger home. However, if through this posting Lillie is able to meet someone who falls in love with her and is willing and eager to work with her and bring out her best qualities, Engin and Lillie both would be overjoyed.

If you or someone you know is drawn to this graceful and special dog and would like to consider providing a foster or permanent home, please contact: Ms. Engin Crenshaw eblondiau@roadrunner.com (310) 709-3577

You may want to consider posting Lillie on the Deaf Dogs Education Fund website. http://www.deafdogs.org/
There are excellent resources there too for deaf dogs. Lillie seems like a sweetie. Hope she finds her forever home soon. Take it from me, once you live with a deafie, you'll always want a deaf dog pal. They're just a little extra special and can do pretty much everything a hearing dog can.
