Local rescue groups come together to help animals
By Dori Gilbert, Best Friends Network The smaller Las Vegas rescue groups have joined forces to create the Vegas K9 Rescue group. With the common goal of helping animals in our community they can share all of their resources to have an even greater impact, while still operating as individual groups. Collectively they will be holding fundraisers, educational classes, and adoption events. They will also help each other with needs such as fostering, boarding, and adoptions.
These smaller rescue groups do not have their own shelters so another goal is the K9 Rescue Center. Not only would the Center be a place to board their rescued animals but also a venue for their events as well as a place to offer services such as microchips and spay/neutering.
The Vegas K9 Rescue website,
www.vegask9rescue.com is a virtual encyclopedia of information for pet owners and animal lovers. They have links to local rescue groups, shelters, boarding facilities, veterinarians, pet trainers, groomers, and dog parks just to name a few. There is also information on local pet laws, pet first aid, and pet food. Upcoming events are highlighted as well as some special needs animals that the groups are trying to help. Be sure and check back here on the Best Friends Network Las Vegas page for upcoming stories about some of these animals.
This Saturday and Sunday, May 3rd and 4th, will be their Pet Adoptathon 2008. It will be from 10am to 2pm in the Royal Pet Resort parking lot at 4700 West Russell Road. In addition to wonderful animals looking for forever homes, there will be a rummage sale, new products sale, donation drive, and a barbeque. For more information, please call (702) 280-6946.
Come out and support Vegas K9 Rescue. Together this coalition of kindness will be able to rescue more animals and save more lives.
