“Where the love of animals reigns supreme!”
By Dori Gilbert, Best Friends Network Betty Honn’s Animal Adoptions, Ltd. is celebrating 40 years of rescuing animals “from elephants to mice” in Southern Nevada. In 1968 Betty Honn founded Southern Nevada’s first no-kill shelter. Since then thousands of animals, including lions, tigers, and bears (oh my!), have found shelter there. Betty passed away in 1977 but her daughter, Theresa, continues her mother’s legacy of rescuing animals in need.
Due to city encroachment, Betty Honn’s has had to scale down their rescue to just domestic pets. All their exotic animals went to a sanctuary in Texas while the farm animals were placed locally.

Betty Honn’s is currently home to approximately 75 rescued dogs, cats, puppies, and kittens. Ginger, pictured left, is their newest arrival. The animals reside at their 5 acre sanctuary which moved in 2005 to Pahrump. Adoption Coordinator Andrea Barber says, “We know the history of every animal and use that knowledge to find the best home for them.”
