Overview of Volunteer Positions
Network Team Leaders coordinate the efforts of the forums moderator, resources associates and news writer to maintain unified and dynamic communities on the Best Friends Network. Leadership skills are essential for this position. Network team leaders work off-site from their own location with flexible hours - approximately five hours per week as a minimum.
Network News Writers work as part of a team of journalists to write original content news stories for the Best Friends Network. A passion for researching and writing news stories is a must. Forums Moderators increase awareness of animal rescue activities in a specific geographic region and engage community members in animal welfare efforts by managing dynamic forums on a specific Best Friends Network community. Resources Associates improve networking and resourcing of information about animal rescue activities in a specific geographic region and engage community members in animal welfare efforts by maintaining updated calendars and resources lists on a specific Best Friends Network community. Resources associates work off-site from their own location with flexible hours - approximately one hour per week as a minimum.
County Representatives work closely with all other community team members, but focus on
a specific area of their state. They research animal-related activities and news stories within their county and submit that information to their team leader, as well as provide helpful links, documents, and calendar information that is pertinent to the county that they represent.
They also may be called on to monitor a forum dedicated to their specific county. County representatives work off-site from their own location with flexible hours - approximately one hour per week as a minimum.
Community Outreach and Campaign Support
Best Friends Ambassadors are an official team of Best Friends Network volunteers working toward the Best Friends mission of No More Homeless Pets through community outreach and education. This may include staffing booths, managing donation jars, attending pep rallies, and participating in campaigns. Strong public relations and exceptional customer-service skills are essential. Ambassadors work off-site in their own communities with a flexible schedule.
Campaign Research Associates assist campaign staff with researching information and resources vital to the success of specific campaigns. Strong research skills, especially using the Internet, are essential. Campaign research associates work off-site from their own location with flexible hours. The minimum commitment depends on the assignment accepted.
Additional Opportunities
Internships/Service-Learning Projects. We welcome students seeking internship and service-learning credits. Most posted volunteer opportunities can be tailored for such experiences. We are also open to discussing other projects that may be mutually beneficial. Rapid Response Team. Members of this team assist Best Friends staff with helping animals in the event of disaster. Special credentials are required, and team members are deployed solely at the discretion of the program director.
