Featured Visitor: Birthday Parties are Going to The Dogs! (and Cats!)
Dawn & J.R. King have been members of Best Friends for many years (Dawn was given a Best Friends magazine about 10 years ago and was sold!), but had never made the trek to Utah from their home state of Pennsylvania.
In addition to being members of Best Friends, they are great supporters for their local humane society, contributing their time to fundraisers, and basically helping to spread the word. Having six companion animals of their own at home (3 dogs, 3 cats) helps to convince people of the joys of furry parenthood as well.
This last year, Dawns birthday present was very special; a trip to Best Friends. Prior to the trip, they staged a very special birthday party for Dawn. The invitations were Best Friends themed; the cake was shaped like a dog, there were dog and cat party favors. Additionally, in lieu of presents for herself, Dawn requested the guests to bring presents for the animals! 30 of their friends attended, bringing pet food, gift cards, and monetary donations.
Dawn & J.R. took the pet food to local shelters, and brought the monetary donations to Best Friends on their first – but not last – trip to the Sanctuary.
A belated, but very heartfelt Happy Birthday to Dawn from all the animals at Best Friends!
