Featured Visitor: Never Underestimate the Power of a Thank You Card!
Remember how annoying it was growing up when your mother forced you to write Thank You Cards?
For Charles & Kathleen Lamken, receiving a Thank You card from Best Friends for a donation they gave, made all the difference in the world. Due to that initial personal touch, they had to come out and meet the people that were so kind; and they have been volunteering with Best Friends 3 times a year for the past 8 years since then!
When they were asked what it is about their visits that they enjoy, they said it wasn’t just one part, but everything that Best Friends does and stands for. They feel that Best Friends is truly special because of the beauty in the commitment from the staff and volunteers all working together for the benefit of the animals.
They also practice their kindness and compassion at home, in Boring Oregon (yes, that is the name of the city!). Charles volunteers with some of the local vets in their area who provide low cost or even free care for local pets. Last year they were able to donate over 700 pounds of food and supplies to the surrounding communities!
On their visit to Best Friends in September of 2007, they added to their furry family, by adopting a ‘mature’ deaf and blind poodle, who went by the name of Salty here, but who they renamed Annie. When they visited us this past May, they not only brought Annie, but they brought Fireball, the Shitzu they adopted 4 years ago when he was 4 years old. Back home in Oregon their family is rounded out by several cats, with tons of love to go around.
Thank you so much to Charles & Kathleen for all that you do! And to those reading the story – remember those Thank You Cards!
