Social Butterflies: Bigglesworth & K.C.
Best Friends is home to hundreds of dogs, cats, horses, bunnies, birds, goats, sheep, and wildlife, but many people don’t realize that the sanctuary is also harboring two “social butterflies.”

These feline ambassadors are better known as Bigglesworth and K.C. – the cottage cats. They live in the laundry room behind the Best Friends cottages where they have their own small cattery and are cared for by the Housekeepers. Although Bigglesworth and K.C. have a cozy home and are well cared for, they spend most of their time elsewhere. They’ve earned their “social butterfly” wings by being two of the most popular sleepover animals at the sanctuary. They even have their own schedule, managed by the Housekeepers!

Guests who stay at the Best Friends cottages frequently request Bigglesworth and/or K.C. to be their overnight guests. Repeat visitors often send in their “cat” requests months in advance. The cats’ overnight supplies include food, dishes, a litter box and toys. Bigglesworth has her very own personalized overnight bag, made for her by an adoring fan.

Bigglesworth, sometimes known as “Mrs. B” or “Biggs,” was the original Cottage Sleepover Cat and has been on the job for over two years. She was rescued from a dumpster by one of the Best Friends housekeepers in a small community north of Kanab. Her personality could be described as self-confident, laid back and mellow.

Bigglesworth’s social calendar was so full that K.C. was “hired” two years ago as an apprentice. It’s hard to believe, but K.C. began life as a feral cat, rescued from a shed when she was a kitten by NaKole, one of the Best Friends housekeepers. NaKole fed the kitten faithfully and then, after a year, decided to try K.C. as a “cottage” cat.

It turns out that the job suits K.C. perfectly. She loves going on sleepovers and has taken some pressure off of Bigglesworth, who was finding that being so popular could be very demanding. K.C. is only three years old and quite active. As one guest stated, “She absolutely stole my heart and hasn't given it back. She is such a pistol. I just love her.”

K.C. earned her nickname “The Snoop” by climbing into any box she can find. In fact, cottage guests have even supplied boxes to keep her entertained.

While the cottages at Best Friends are very comfortable, clean and popular, Bigglesworth and K.C. have “kicked the experience up a notch” for hundreds of sanctuary visitors.

I can vouch for the fact that K.C. is an excellent slumber party guest. She also is adept at packing.......well maybe not packing so much as investigating the contents therein. She can be quite the snuggle bunny once she stops her forward momentum.

For those of you who followed Semi's story on the Guardian Angel page she is a dead ringer for the little guy. Here is K.C. helping me pack this past May:

What adorable photos Carrie and Pattycatty! What adorable babes! They certainly are in high demand., that's for sure. Occasionally I fear I will have to break up fights over these sweeties. And speaking of sweeties, the girls that take care of them are just the best ever. We receive constant compliments on the work they do. Thanks girls for all you do and for rescuing these kitties! Fun story, Sue!

Thanks indeed for rescuing these social ambassadors, ladies. I can not believe anyone who abandon a cat like Ms. B, and K.C. was just far too cute to be left to the vagaries of feral life. Oh, my I can't imagine Best Friends without either of them.

Not only do the laundry staff keep the guests well stocked with all their lodging needs but they also are so generous in sharing those lovely kitties with us.

K.C. is one gorgeous kitty cat. I cant' believe that no one has tried to adopt her yet. She reminds me of Lovebug :)

I believe that K.C. has been adopted by NaKole, one of the lovely women in the picture. This makes it even more special that K.C. is shared with the numerous cottage guests who request her energetic presence. Not sure I could part with any of my kitties even for an evening so I really appreciate the generosity they exhibit to make our stays more enjoyable.

i had a sleepover with KC at my cabin the last night i was there at best friends. one of the first things she did after arriving was getting very comfortable in my luggage (no problem...my cats would do the same thing). KC was very active after i went to bed. i heard her scratching at the floor near the door and felt sad thinking that she wanted to leave to get back to her home. i turned on the light to see & she was playing with some very ugly scorpion-like insect that was crawling rapidly around the floor. Aaaaaah! thanks to KC for finding this thing before it got into bed with me. it was me or the "bug" at that point!! great way to end my fantastic time at BF.

I had KC for 3 nites last week. I said I was not going to have a sleepover kitty while I was there since I have 4 cats at home. When I arrived I saw a note on my neighbors door stating KC was inside...I was a snoop and peeked in her window and saw KC..she was so beautiful I could not resist! The next morning I booked her for 3 nites. She is very fiesty, but I loved her! She can also be very affectionate when she wants to be. I enjoyed her company very much and hated saying good-bye to her.
It is hard to believe she was once a feral cat living in NaKole's shed.

KC spent Sunday night and Bigglesworth (Little Biggie) the rest of the week with us. What sweethearts!
KC is a good spider chaser, and Biggie was the perfect couch companion.
