Organic Dairy
It's not just about lack of pesticides and antibiotics, it's about sustaining the family farm
Organic Valley Farm farmers David and Kayla Roberts' Holstein dairy cows enjoy the wide-open spaces while grazing in a sunny field. The Roberts run an organic dairy outside Preston, Idaho.
Organic Valley Family of Farms, a national farm co-op, has helped to make the transition successful. David Roberts said Organic Valley chose to work with small family farms instead of large commercial operations. “The organic market has grown about 20 percent a year for the past three years,” he said. “It's a way for small farms to compete.”
