Tibetan Volunteers for Animals commemorated the 2550th Anniversary of the Mahaparinirvana of Gautama Buddha (The Buddha's Enlightenment) with a Peace Rally for Animals in Dharamsala on June 11, 2006. The main aim of holding this peace rally on the Budh Purnina is to contribute to the world peace where the sensitivity of humans to other forms of life is highlighted.
The Kalon Tripa Professor Samdhong Rinpoche was the chief guest, in his inaugural of the Peace Rally for Animals praised the working of the Tibetan Volunteer for Animals and said that the Vegetarianism is scientifically proven to be better sustenance than the meat and that it is increasing becoming popular in the West. Therefore, he says that being Buddhist, the Tibetan people especially the monks should convert to vegetarianism.
The AHIMSA Peace Rally for the Animals started the march from the main cathedral of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, past the palace of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and then taking the Jogiwara roads to the Library, the Head quarters of the Tibetan Government-in-exile, stopping to say prayers along the way. The Peace Rally for Animals successfully concluded at the office of the TEAM (Tesi Environment Awareness Movement).
