Gomer Goes to New York
Gomer, a much loved dog of Best Friends was placed thru the Training Partners Program to Lori Arken and Victoria Wells of Behave Yourself! dog training.
Gomer was not doing well in the communal runs that can hold quite a few dogs in the Best Friends Octagons.
Even tho Gomer did not have tremendous behavioral issues, it was not helping his situation to have all these other dogs around and the added stress that comes with it. In comes Lori, her shelter the Duchess SPCA specializes in Senior Adoptions and adoptions of dogs with special needs.
The Duchess SPCA never turns away a dog because of age or medical conditions and many of their volunteers and foster homes are committed to helping these less than perfect charges.
Gomer is in the Dog Walking Program and gets walked twice a day on the facility's 30 acres of woods and streams.
He also gets basic obedience training, and has gone on outreach jaunts. He is a staff favorite, and while he is digs are a comfy single dog run, he also gets off lead playtime everyday in one of the many sizable exercise enclosures.
He is both a staff favorite and a favorite of one special volunteer couple that may be making a bigger commitment in the near future (I promised not to blab, but good news is hard not to share!). By all means Gomer has hit doggy paydirt in this wonderful stop on his journey home!
There will be a special story posted on the Network in the coming weeks!
Here's a quick blurb from Lori:
Hope everyone is well. Here are some photos of Gomer, taken at the shelter this Sunday. He's been a great dog. Everyone likes him. He went to an outreach a couple of weeks ago. So he got out for a while, and got to socialize. He also gets walks and attention every day from our dog walkers.
