Dawn of a New Network
New and improved Best Friends Network set for lift-off
By Best Friends staffWell over a year in the making, the new and vastly improved Best Friends Network will soon hit your computer screens. The new Network will launch in phases throughout the rest of the year, with the first big launch planned for early July.
We’re inviting all of our friends of the old Network to be part of this special occasion and be the first to use the new Network.
The changes from the old to the new Network are numerous, but all were made with one overarching goal in mind: to support and facilitate the grassroots work that needs to be done to save the lives of animals and make No More Homeless Pets a reality. The new Network—more streamlined, accessible and practical than the old—serves as a powerful vehicle for getting that work done.

Using cutting-edge technology, the new Network makes it easy to navigate and find the information you’re looking for, so you can stay informed and updated on animal welfare issues, get connected with others, and be involved at a state, national and even international level.
The focus is on expanding the collaborative effort among Best Friends Animal Society and friends on the Network, a collaboration that is giving animals a voice and helping marshal the people needed to usher in a time of No More Homeless Pets.
Behind this grassroots movement are the four major campaigns Best Friends has developed, and the Network presents these campaigns front and center with an area dedicated to each so you can follow their progress. Those four include:
•
Focus on Felines: keeping cats safe and out of shelters
•
First Home Forever Home: helping people provide a loving, forever home for their pets
•
Pit Bulls: Saving America’s Dog: restoring the image of pit bulls and challenging breed discrimination
•
Puppies Aren’t Products: Exposing the connection between puppy mills and pet stores, and encouraging adoption
Perhaps the greatest change people will notice about the new Network is the enhancement of its networking tools. The new Network has plenty of them, making it easy for users to get involved with one or more of the Best Friends campaigns at a community level and to connect with like-minded people. The Network will thereby help create the kind of relationships that will help enlarge and invigorate these campaigns.
The social networking tools aren’t just for the campaigns, however. Want to give your particular rescue group more exposure? Not a problem. Want to get the word out to thousands of people about an upcoming fundraiser? Easy. Need help recruiting volunteers? Certainly. Whatever you need to enhance the profile of your group, yourself, and your animal welfare work is right there on the new Network.
But the most exciting feature of the new Network is perhaps one that helps the very creatures we are trying to save: the individual homeless pets. Fed by Petfinder.com, the feature will showcase adoptable animals along with their photos and descriptions, and allow you to find animals available for adoption in a city or state near you.
Those who are currently active users of the old Network will be the first to appreciate improved site performance. We’ll be asking for your feedback and suggestions. We’ll also be asking you to tell your family, friends and neighbors about this critical new Network that’s making it possible for animal lovers to get social and save lives.
