Spirit is a beautiful horse, he came from a rather sad background where he was left in a junkyard to eat nothing but weeds. He was emaciated, without water and food and was beaten by his owner when he would not comply. The effects being he is very head shy. He is a 10 year old gelding who is nothing but loving considering his past. The local police department would have nothing to do with it. I am the president of CAWS a local animal rescue group and received a phone call regarding the situation of this poor creature and it's companion. I had been trying to work with the local police going on 6 months at this point and they would not do a thing. I asked this lady to get as many of her friends as she could to call the police department to complain of the dire situation of these horses. After 50 calls they eventually brought in the State Vet who confiscated the horses.

The lady who initiated the calls decided that she would foster them until the Police Department who now had custody of them came to a decision as to what to do with them. After a month they decided to take them to the sale. We were mortified as we know they would go for killer.

So after many phone calls to the mayor and others the police department handed them over to this very kind lady. Unfortunately she could not keep both, so I adopted Spirit.

He is now on 30 acres of pasture, has a warm loafing shed, grain and hay and is coming on extremely well. He has a kind hearted spirit hence the name and makes a wonderful companion to my two rescue fillies Hope and Juliette.

Sounds like Spirit is living the life now! What a wonderful story!!
